I record, weekly, (100\' session) of a live band of 17 legendary swing musicans. I began with the Band\'s SM57 mic kit supplemented with a few of my own mics. Over some months I replaced the SM57s with Joly modded SDCs (991/603) and LDCs (990/NT1a) mixed with Neumann KMS105s for vocals.
The musicians stand for solos in this small, noisy, venue so I use standing and seated mics for the 4 trumpets and 4 \'Bones (5 for the Saxes, 2 M/S sets for audience/band, drum Mics and direct boxes for the bass/keyboard/guitar). A total of 31 inputs/24 tracks (@24/96).
I can testify that Michael\'s mics are reliable, \"Flat\" sounding and match the best of the \"German\" mics-of any price. It\'s nice to get a bargain on a mic tracking vocals or single instrument but it\'s a game changer to assemble a world class complement of 33 mics-at a small fraction of the prices I paid decades ago. |
