Inspired by the legendary KM 84 -
The Ultimate SDC Mod II (for your SDC mic) features two capsule innovations - the signature MJE "DirectSound" modification removes diaphragm setback coloration and a new backplate design eliminates the peaked and harsh top end found in all of these mics: MXL 603, MXL 991, MXL 840, MXL 551, MXL V67n, Monoprice SDC, Avantone CK1, Golden Age Project FC4, CAD M39, CAD GXL-1200, Nady CM-90 and Apex 180 etc.
No edginess / more sparkle!
Q: What’s the most common complaint leveled against the KM 184? A: “It’s too bright and edgy!” The MJE Ultimate SDC Mod II delivers a smooth and sparkly sound without the edgy HF peak found in the KM 184. The Ultimate SDC Mod II imparts 3 dB of “sparkle” in the very top octave from 8kHz to 16kHz relative to the KM 184. No edginess / more sparkle in other words.

Premium Electronics Upgrade -
The next step toward world-class SDC sound is provided by my field-proven Premium Electronics upgrade package. These component upgrades and topology changes extend bass, reduce midrange graininess and make the top end smoother. Your Ultimate SDC Mod II mic will deliver smooth and sweet sound in your critical acoustic guitar and drum OH recordings.
Complete Rebuild -
To deliver these benefits your SDC will be completely disassembled and rebuilt. The PC is board removed and upgraded with superior components. All capsule parts (screen, diaphragm, spacers, backplate, tuning chamber and retaining ring) will removed from their housing and safely stored.
The capsule housing is re-machined with the MJE “DirectSound” mod to eliminate diaphragm set back resonance and coloration. A new diaphragm, hand-selected for flattest HF response is installed (if you send us two mics we'll select and install a matched pair of diaphragms). The new advanced-design MJE backplate is used to build up the modified capsule. Once re-assembled, the entire capsule is tuned to an ideal capacitance for greatest sensitivity and output.
